Your Passion Needs a Job
Solopreneurs have a remarkable opportunity to chart their own path, especially in unconventional spaces.
Where a company may not have space on the payroll for an in-house sound bath healer (for example), you can take your singing bowls and make a completely profitable career for yourself as a solopreneur!
In this vast and ever-evolving business landscape, there's ample room for innovation and creativity.
Consider how many jobs exist today that certainly didn’t when we were trying to figure what we wanted to be when we grew up:
Podcast producer
Social media influencer
Senior product manager at a cloud-based, AI-driven tech company 😂
But you have the power, freedom, and flexibility to make real any job in the world that inspires you!
There's opportunity for your passion and personality to have a job as much as your skills and experience.
The field is wide open!
If you’re a person with a day job and an idea for a side hustle…or you’re struggling to find a day job and considering opting exclusively for the autonomy that comes with running your own business, I highly recommend going for it!
Solopreneurs occupy some wild and delightfully unconventional roles. But that’s the joy of flexing your unique skill set. You can work it in any way you want to.
Speaking of the wild and wonderful spaces that solopreneurs may find themselves in is a good bridge to quickly introduce today’s Spotlight series guest, Cheshire Isaacs.
I met Cheshire in the context of his work as a traditional photographer for one of my web clients. But as you’ll hear him discuss in the video, the majority of his work is in the “boudoir photography” space.
Those are sexy photos, yes, but with the goal of empowerment and choice for the individual instead for public consumption.
Knowing him and his background, when I heard him talk about his primary form of work it didn’t give me pause in the slightest. I realize he’s a new friend to you all though.
I encourage you to read his statement about how he expanded his studio from graphic design and portraiture offerings into boudoir photography at his website Dragonfly Boudoir.
It’s a great story about an individual taking a leap of faith into a new field and finding rich fulfillment and a thriving business where he least expected it.
As the traditional employer-employee relationship is continuously redefined - some would say even degraded - we can expect even more innovative and boundary-pushing roles to emerge, giving rise to new generations of solopreneur success stories.
Would you like to be one, too?
This series spotlights entrepreneurs who are working hard to stay current and motivated in their business world as they go it alone in their respective fields. Production by: Stefanie Small
3 Ways to Focus Your Unique Career Path
1. Ignite your inner trailblazer: To carve out a niche that's truly your own, draw a quadrant on a blank page and write 10 examples in each open block of your “experience”, “skills”, “personality”, and “passions”. No one else has this same list! By identifying them all, you can create a fulfilling and profitable solopreneur journey that sets you apart from the crowd and feels amazing to pursue every day.
2. Ride the wave of emerging trends: Stay attuned to the ever-evolving business landscape and capitalize on burgeoning industries that align with the passions you just identified. Take the booming podcast industry, for instance. If you have a passion for storytelling and audio production, consider launching your own podcast or offering your services as a freelance podcast producer. This way, you'll contribute to shaping the future of this exciting field while building a thriving business.
3. Build your solopreneur tribe: Sometimes we can stop ourselves before we even start. So get yourself around some fellow visionaries who share your drive and passion for charting new territories! By connecting with like-minded individuals, you'll have a supportive network to rely on as you navigate the world of solopreneurship together.
