Creating a Multi-media Autobiography

The Spark: Renowned Rocket Scientist, NASA “Mars Czar”, and longtime guitarist G. Scott Hubbard came to me with the objective of building a multi-media, Autobiographical website, replete with personal stories, pictures, space missions, and his largely unknown (to the space world) years of musical endeavors.

The Fuel: hundreds of pages of transcribed oral history, original photography, archival documents, music recordings, and video production resulting in a brand new youTube channel.

The launch: This site tells the stories of scott’s parallel passions for music and science, beginning with the inspirations from his childhood home, through his career in leadership and service at nasa, and anticipates his future publications and ongoing media engagement. No matter where a reader enters the site, they’ll come away in awe at the expanse of scott’s singular accomplishments.

Integrating Video

In order to utilize the tremendous amount of recorded music and archived images in Scott’s personal catalogue, I produced videos for each track, thus anchoring the materials and music in the era they were created. We further created YouTube playlists of the many talks, interviews, and honors he’s been part of already online.

honors, Events, & Media

A career as august as Scott’s rendered many photos with notable colleagues (seen here with astronaut Buzz Aldrin), an exceptional number of honors awarded by illustrious organizations such as NASA and AIAA, plus a breathtaking number of interviews in which he’s featured. Prioritization and contextual clarity were essential here.

History & Career

Scott was enamored of space and music equally from a young age. Telling the story of one man’s journey - literally through time and space - meant tracing his professional career path from the site’s top navigation, with secondary pages that more thoroughly explained and connected his work, music, and associations.

To whom it may concern:

For many years I've had the idea of describing my life long work in space exploration, science and music in some form or fashion. When I imagined the concept of constructing a website that would pull all these disparate threads together, the first problem was daunting. Who would have the interest, insight and capability to tackle such a project?

The answer was Stefanie Small!

Stefanie brought enthusiasm, knowledge and dedication to the task - which I'm happy to say is now exactly as I wanted. By combining a YouTube channel with a website platform, Stefanie was able to cover more than 50 years of history, display my career accomplishments in space exploration and also provide a way to insert and reference my musical creations.

I can unequivocally recommend Stefanie for any web creation effort. She has focus, intuition and the ability to both listen to the client and guide the project.

Very Sincerely,

Dr. G. Scott Hubbard

Former Director of NASA's Ames Research Center

NASA's first Mars Program Director (aka the Mars Czar).
